woolybanana
On and off, then. No wonder the poor old fool needs new glasses and no wonder he called Sarkozy the 'innocent prisoner'. He is knackered from too much late night Scrabble. Last night he got a triple word score and had to call a doctor.Still, she is a step up from his last, canine paramour! Martin963
Were they ever "off"?
Officially I got the impression that they were "off". But it seems it may have been a convenient smoke-screen.Or what I call a lie.
woolybanana
Lies are not viewed with the same censure in France. Lying is part of the culture.
NormanH
Almost as much part of the culture as malicious gossip is among English men of a certain age..

NormanH
woolybanana
That is far too serious to be tittle, Norman. We want the low down, à la Daily Mail. Go on, I am sure you know loads!
NormanH
Here is the Daily Mail:http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2690529/Former-French-president-Nicolas-Sarkozy-hit-new-corruption-scandal-recorded-offering-meet-Prince-Albert-Monaco-set-plum-job-judge.html
Martin963
It seems the rumours continue, in spite of Norman's legendary diversionary tactics (above)....http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/francois-hollande/11215492/Francois-Hollande-and-Julie-Gayet-Its-started-again.htmlOf course, it may just be tittle-tattle. We'll see.....
mint
Martin, I don't think they were ever "off".There were rumours that they were going to get hitched on his birthday in June. Then, la féroce Valérie published her book, dishing out all the dirt she could think of or make up and I suppose Hollande thought that perhaps then wasn't the best time to incense Valérie further and garner even more bad press for himself. woolybanana
There were rumours in the French press that they were using a back passage to the Elysee to let her come and go discreetly and that anyone seen taking fotos within a kilometer was taken out and used as pothole filler. Martin963
Shows how behind the curve I am!! Laters: I had no idea a back passage was involved in all this. It just gets better and better!
mint
Martin, do not worry about whether you are au courant or not. There ARE many twists and turns (more than is polite to discuss on here).Back passage, front passage, it's one of those things. I was brought up to never bring these things up in day to day conversation!
Martin963
Well indeed. My mother was taught never to say anything as a child without running it through the following checklist:Is it kind?Is it true?Is it necessary? As she herself said, there would be little conversation at all if everyone stuck to that filter!!(and yes, I'm sorry, I have a very childish sense of humour when it comes to passages).
