Mr Coeur de Lion
Obviously there are nowhere near the amount of property transactions in France as there are compared to the UK, so why is it possible to buy a house within a month in the UK, yet it takes at least 3 months in France? woolybanana
Bureaucracy Lionheart, bureaucracy, though I am told it can be done quicker.
sadie
If the land is greater than certain size it must be offered to the farming comunity. They have two months to reply. After that time it is deemed that they are not interested. So two months delay! after that I do not know.
woolybanana
SAFIR buys and resells apparently, making healthy profits, but the situation or housing property on this land is a tricky one as, from what I understand, it is sold on later separately. dragonrouge
Also most of UK property is registered as against non-registered land it beats the French system hands down. Also Solicitors are in the main much better than those Notaires and to whom one is seemingly required to doff one's cap.
woolybanana
You really don't need to doff the cap, DR, tugging the forelock will do.[;-)]
Mr Coeur de Lion
My notaire wasn't too impressed when I tugged his forelock.
Briank
Can anyone tell me how much land you have to have for SAFIR to become involved? We are selling our house and when we enquired why it was taking so long we were told that it was SAFIR holding things up. This was the first time it had been mentioned - about 8 weeks after signing the compromis. Should it have been mentioned when we signed? Our buyers didn't know anything about it either. Our agent said that we could have paid about 300 euros to have it fast tracked! - if, of course, we had been told about it!Thanks Brian K

idun
Not just agricultural land, but any property can be bought by the commune and they have a certain time to show their interest. Our notaire let the Mairie know when we had an acheter and then we had to wait the alloted time before things could proceed, several weeks.
