idun
The central caserne des pompiers in Caen is going to be closed every night. Caen is a city and surely cities need a fire crew on duty 24 hours a day. Fires are not something that can be 'left', they have to be dealt with immediately. I have seen on the news that Mairies and Conseil are having to rein in their budgets, but at some point, it feels like doing something like this could be dangerous and life threatening. Val_2
That sounds very dangerous indeed and Caen is a big place plus the caserne would also serve other outlying hamlets and help other brigades too! Money is being spent willy nilly around here amongst cries of anguish from the populous. My own commune of approx. 900 souls have just spent out over half a million euros doing up the village hall which is plain ridiculous, in fact the local agglo had to step in and take over because the architect originally used by the commune kept upping his expenses every few months and it became unaffordable. I would much rather had seen the money spent on the roads and general infrastructure than on something that stands empty for most of the time and they even ripped up a perfectly good tiled floor because people wanted to dance on wooden parquet instead!
