idun
French news has been a bit odd this week.At the beginning of the week they said that for all the government had said that they were going to employ X number of fonctionnaires, that included, armed forces, teachers, police, they were having problems getting people to apply for such jobs and in many sectors needed staff urgently.AND then on yesterday's news, the government said that they were going to increase the number of fonctionnaires.I had always believed that being a fonctionnaire was very desirable in France, but apparently no longer. What I do know is that just before I left France, my hairdresser said that her son had been found a teaching job somewhere in the North. He had not passed his exams, that is what she had said the previous year, but apparently, when they looked at it all again, he was actually qualified to teach........ so there you go. [/quote]My goodness it sounds as though Government desperation at not being able to find enough teachers to fill all the empty posts is setting in. Perhaps the system of sending (new and then some other) teachers to the ends of France, without the approval of said teachers, really has come to a natural end.Not before time, in my view.Sue
suein56
Oh really, I give up ... now I cannot even edit a post without gobbledygook taking over.Grrr.The post in question has now been re-edited, this time on a laptop.
woolybanana
The problem in France is not the number of teachers or soldiers, but the numbers of administrative and non-productive drones who work at slow pace, are often incompetent and who don't give a ruck. This applies both at the national and the regional and sub-regional level.Hollande has largely failed to remove these drones whilst also failing to staff certain types of post properly.I say 'largely' because some progress is being made; my neighbour, the tax inspector, tells me that some departments are being abolished entirely. Unfortunately the fonctionnaires working there cant be made redundant but will be transferred elsewhere. Presumably however they will not be replaced eventually. The only snag with that is those same foncs, even though no longer working, continue to cost the state almost the same via the inflated pensions they are paid.Sue
woolybanana
As things stand, the purpose of the taxpayer and the State is to provide money for life for fonctionnaires who never work properly, are featherbedded at the taxpayer's expense and who maintain their pay and status by political and union power. In fact the purpose of the Socialist party is to maintain this status.
