Quillan
There is a lot going on with CSG it would appear and I don't understand a lot of the proposed changes however I did find the following article which you will find interesting with reference to your link. http://www.lemonde.fr/argent/article/2015/09/21/csg-et-crds-des-non-residents-bercy-a-la-man-uvre_4765803_1657007.html?xtmc=csg&xtcr=5 It also seems the 'great debate' is about merging it into the normal tax rate although in the budget it seems that for next year it will stay but be on a sliding scale removeing several million households (it is claimed) from paying the tax. So there is a job for you Idun, a bit of research and report back with regards to CSG in general. There are quite a few articles, quite lengthy, about this in the French press. I don't have the time plus your French language skills are far superior to mine. It seems Ayrault and Muet want it to remain but renamed a citizen tax at a reduced rate (around 8% I think) and everyone pays it regardless of income. The point is, if I understand it correctly, is that this was a temporary tax which has now become permanent because it has raked in so much money which the government has not only used for social projects but other things as well and now can't afford to be without, therefore it will stay in one form or another. For many expats the problem starts if they rename it completely because the moment it moves away from being a social tax you won't be able to claim it back on investments, interest etc (if you're an S1 holder). I think Chancer might know a bit more than he is letting on because he made a comment a while back in the thread on claiming it back, its like he foresaw a change coming and I know he is interested in French politics. NormanH
Remember that this is not primarily aimed at the British. It is about French 'non-Doms' a bit like a similar move in the UK.It could have knock-on effects however.
