YCCMB Posted January 4, 2016 Share Posted January 4, 2016 So, as France is settling into its new structure, here's a little nugget from my next door neighbour, which made me laugh. Not necessarily in a good way...At commune level, in our area, we've all been regrouped in such a way as to reduce the overall number of communes to 13 from 22.So far, so good. Well...not completely. Because the number of representatives of the new communes will not decrease in proportion, thanks to M. Hollande's very literal interpretation of égalité as it applies to the sexes. As there will have to be a male and a female representative for each commune, the previous 22 will now become 26.Assuming this phenomenon is reproduced across France and at all levels, I am doubtful whether the train will have enough gravy to go round.
