An illegally opened lettre box?

Can anyone tell me what the proceedure is when your lettre box is being opened and left open, not by the facture?

A friend/neighbour and we share a real mad sod of a neighbour and 3 times recently our friends lettre box has been found open. I suspect this clown and I believe that it's being done to intimidate? If it were a thief with a key then the last thing he would want is for anyone to know the box had been opened.

Our friend lives alone and the house is slightly isolated even although we are in thevillage and she feels very vunerable, so the sooned sorted the better. The clown has been a problem since he moved in and he bought a bad reputation with him! So any advice, legal unfortunately, would be appreciated.

Both friend and foe are French, albeit the foe has a very Spanish nom de famille.

Our friend is going to go into the local La Poste office in our canton town and ask there, but if there is any other info I can give her?

The clown/foe/fou is suspected of dumping a load of used tissues into our foss´that runs alongside our garden. This was when they both had a bout of flue. Why them? Because where they were dumped is on the right of way to our friend's and the only others to use any of it are the clown and other 1/2. No reason for anyone else to walk 75 metres off the road to do it. He is a born bully! But he doesn't try it on me!
Sorry, I have to ask. Is the neighbour (the clown) French or dare I say **** ? What is the nationality of your friend who is having their box opened ? Not really sure what I would do in this situation but I guess knowing the nationalities of the parties involved would help.
How would knowing the nationalities help and why do you ask?
Speak to the facteur/euse about it.
They should know what to do.
Had a similar situation here.

Cannot see that they could do anything other than confirm it was not them, the Clé passe PTT can be bought on the net although to advertise one to sell would be idiotic, you can also make your own from 3 out of 4 keys.

I can understand the intimidation, my only suggestion if it is a regular occurrence is a covert motion activated video or still recording device

Sorry to nitpick, Pat, but it's facteur/factrice[:)]

Jonz, as you seem to have nothing but trouble from this neighbour, are you not able to report him at the mairie?  Or even déposer une plainte at the gendarmerie?

My smelling in Englich is terrible, in French ??? Forget it and I appolojize [:-))]

We are on 1st name terms with our Maire and he has asked how the clown is on several occasions. He seems to be able to do nowt about him? We are also on 1st name terms with the postman and he is always careful.

I had a wander round and had a good tug at the lettre box, it is solid and set in a stone wall.

We have a couple of CCTV cameras, false ones, that would probably help? So I will concider asking if they may do the job for our friend. Sad when we have to stoop to such?

Say-la-piggin-veeeee?

Our first one was not up to much and we found it open a couple of times. Had a word with the facteur and they said to get a better one, which we did and never had a problem after that.

I would ask at La Poste as to what the law is as to who has access to a private letter box...... or at the gendarmerie.

Unfortunately Pat that's not possible as the house is about 30 yards inside the garden from the 6' plus high wall and solid wooden gate.

We will possibly see her again today as we want to tell her how our SPANCing inspection went this morn [:-))] I do love the way that the French use all those initials?

CHANCER ASKED "How would knowing the nationalities help and why do you ask?"

Usually with these types of threads on French forums (I can think of many) the offender turns out to be a British neighbour. You usually don't learn this important fact until the thread reaches at least page 4.

I thought It would be best to cut to the chase and get it out in the open......and of course I was being nosey. Brits who have lost the plot in France are always good for a giggle.

I would just buy a stronger letter box....although they are expensive. If it keeps happening inform postey and the Gendarmes. I guess it is an offence in France.

As I said ALBF, I gave the door a good tug and it is quite solid, so I assume that a key is being used.

All sorts of people, including couriers have keys these days. We have had a couple of couriered packages put in our box after I had collected the post from it. So a new box wouldn't help.

The clown has his house up for sale so I am thinking of donating a 'for sale' sign [I]
