woolybanana
President Macron is proposing the abolition of the special treatment of railway workers for their pensions and retirement arrangements, which are currently by far the best in the country. And he wants to introduce private services alongside the current provider (though using SNCF workers who would be transferred to the new companies). In return, the State would takeover all or part of the huge debt of the railways. You can imagine that the rail unions are not best pleased by this! So, expect disruption, at least, if not stone chucking, tyre burning, roundabout blocking and general left wing thuggery some time in the next year of so. idun
This whole thing fills me with dread. I know a few people who commute by train and they are sick to the back teeth of the SNCF at the moment. My son who will be badly affected by any greve, says that the trains are under staffed too.Macron's popularity is even worse than Hollande's at this point in his Presidency........ !!!!! As ever it will be interesting as I reckon that the staff will do as they have always done.
