woolybanana
Mistakes like ths are called couacs, one of my favourite French words. Betty, you must have loved those tight trousers! But why the hell do students from the polytechniqe still march, and in uniform designed over 200 years ago? YCCMB
Well, you can't blame some poor National Service Oik for putting the wrong dye canister on that plane. Must be a court martial right there...?

mint
But the 14 juillet from Paris tonight was enjoyable and I thought quite a lot better than in some previous years.PLUS, if they win the world cup tomorrow, that will make up for everything, won't it?[:P]

YCCMB
I'm sure France do football very well. They're just notso special at pomp and ceremony.I remember a troop of French sailors marching downThe Mall at Mountbatten's funeral. I was watching at the side of the road with my (French) boss as groups of perfectly drilled and impeccably regimented soldiers and sailors from UK regiments went by and then a scruffy and somewhat disorganised gaggle of French navy."It makes me ashamed to be French" said my bossPS. I'll be watching the TDF...

suein56
Here it is car horns sounding .. not horribly long nor continuously, as in a big city wedding, but sounding out quand même.
YCCMB
To my huge amusement this lunchtime a big group of local French jeunes with families incl a number of kiddies in pushchairs arrived at our local bar bedecked in tricolores with funny hats, face paint etc., all ready for the match. Much good natured banter and good wishes for the match were exchanged among us. Then I happened to notice that one of the pushchair toddlers, little tricolores painted on his cheeks, was wearing a tiny baseball cap in the appropriate colours....but, on close inspection, it had a little design on the front bearing the word "Croatia". ??? Love it .. here I took advantage of the situation re the football final to go down to the beach for a swim .. normally a real no-no on a Sunday in July, especially the 15 .. especially when the sun is beating down, and the holiday-makers are but one day into their holidays ..To find it was great .. very few people compared to a normal sunny Sunday in July .. mostly women and a few children with a small number of males. The sea was warm .. and a super time was had by all .. tis a shame the world cup doesn't come round more often. ;-)
