woolybanana
Clouding up nicely, temperature dropping, wind all over the place, but will it fall here? ?????Doggy not yet feeling the thunder so maybe not for a moment. But by Bobo, do we need a drop of rain, if only to keep the giters next door indoors or away and quiet!
alittlebitfrench
Supposed to be the hottest day to day !!!.....theyt got that wrong. It is quite chilly here.Yesterday, I could not go out. It was unbearable....and I like the heat.
woolybanana
Spent a good part of my life in hot climes but never sought the heat. This canicule has not been too pleasant.IT RAINS, not much thus far, but cooling and dust clearing.
alittlebitfrench
My newly laid grass don't look to heathy. LOLThere is a storm coming. I can here it in the background. No doubt it will be hail the size of golfballs to finish the lawn off and put holes in the roof. The joys of living in France. woolybanana
When did you lay the lawn? Normally autumn is best, I reckon.
mogs
I can see lightening, but that's it.We need RAIN overnight every night for the next few days. I seem to be spending more time indoors than out, we have a pool so that's about it for outside. But then of course there is the dreaded dead heading to do, it never ends.Just a tad cooler would be nice with a bit of overnight rain.I love in a dream world don't I? ??? woolybanana
Oooh, yes, head dedding is fun. Seems many things are going over a bit early this year too.Note to self: reduce plants in pots by half as watering is a pain. Thus far, very little real rain, hope for more tomorrow or next day. Judith
Storm and rain about 7.3- last night, all over by 8.30 when I left my meeting, which we had held inside, seeing the back clouds approaching. Nicely reduced temp to 22, but can't have been that much as I could see the pattern in the ground where my car was parked, though as if happened I'd parked in spot sheltered from the direction it all came. Worst storm threatened for tonight, but it's hot again outside, I've just got back from posting a letter, and no shade on the way at this time of day! alittlebitfrench
@ WoolyI laid the lawn in May. I used 'magic' grass from Traffult. I mowed it just before the canicule which did not help. It had been raining up until then and looked superb. It will survive.
woolybanana
Ok, I see. Did you put a sprinkler on it during the cacinule or at least hopepipe the bathwater onto it?
idun
I called my son a couple of nights ago and he sounded really happy, almost excited... it was raining and cooled down.Steady rain he said, not a deluge. I can but wish you all cooler temperatures and gentle steady rain.As a side note, I always always noticed a change in the weather from the quinze Aout, I could smell autumn in the air too..... that is the best description I can give, just that the air seemed different. Is it like that all over France?
woolybanana
Steady rain has been falling all day, brilliant. But the 20 degree drop in temperature is a bit of a shock. At least the doggies can come out in the car again rather than staying at home and singing the devil’s chorus for hours. idun
Some rain is a bit of an understatement, terrible flooding again.
Patf
"Every year the weather gets worse." I'm not sure about that, ALBF. Where we lived, the Gers. One year was always different from the last. And we had a similar canicule in 2003, with flooding afterwards. I did notice a slow increase in heat and dampness though. Most plants tended to sprout earlier and more vigorously each year.. mogs
I love that description Wooly ?.We had an amazing storm last night, I was outside at 1 am watching it. Lightening all over the sky with rumbles closely following. I was lucky as just after I went back to bed the heavens opened and we had about an hour of torrential rain. Praise the Lord (or whoever I thought). It drizzled for a bit this morning, and once it stopped I took the dog's out for a walk, the first time in weeks. However one of our water butts didn't appear replenished and after my hours walk I needed a shower, not from rain I add.So we've had a day off from the intense heat but will it last? I have family arriving next week so for them I hope the weather is good.
Judith
Here the threatened cloud [storm] has passed away, or rather, it never really arrived. Cloudy, cooler winds and the odd drop of rain, dampening but not really wetting and lasting only about 5 minutes, about 3 times over about 2 hours. Fresher certainly today, but now beginning to heat up and 30 again forecast for tomorrow.
Gardian
After the heatwave of the last month or so, we had a massive thunderstorm on Sunday evening - as usual, our power went off and we didn’t get it back until midday on Monday.Yesterday was even worse though. It started at about 10.00 and the storm was going hammer & tongs until late afternoon. Power off again, but it came back on at 21.15. We received a text and (separate) voice message from the Mairie advising caution and basically ‘stay put’. Good system. We’re on quite high ground, so no real problem except that persistent heavy rain finds out all the little cracked roof tiles! The problems with the German youngsters was about 20kms north of us. Nearly 200 (including adult ‘minders’) evacuated from a riverside campsite but sadly one adult is missing. No other serious casualties. It seems that the landowner is to be prosecuted for endangering life and running an ‘unofficial’ campsite in a flood-prone location. The Maire could be in trouble as well because he would hardly have been unaware of the place! This could very easily have been a major tragedy - happily not. YCCMB
Glad you're OK, Guardian. I saw the news and thought of you so pleased you're not too badly affected. Share your pain about leaky roofs!
Gardian
Just to correct myself - it appears that I did the Maire a disservice.According to today’s Midi Libre, he has been ‘en litige’ against the landowners since 2017 over the unauthorised use of the land as a campsite and did actually warn them several days prior to the floods of the dangers that they were running. It also appears that records of exactly which youngsters were present were less than perfect.
