bloodyestateagent
Can someone clarify or confirm the rules for voting in the French elections? My understanding is that you have to be a French national (ie have lived in France for 5 years and applied for nationality, or be married to a French national) to be able to vote in either the presedential or local elections. Is this correct? Tresco
Is this correct?
No.You can vote in local elections, and Euro elections, but you need to have registered to do so before December 31st in the year before the vote takes place. You can't vote in the Pres elections, unless you are have taken French Nationality, so if you married Madame Royale tomorrow, that would make no difference - but that's a guess.[;-)]
Val_2
That is correct. When a french election comes up, I cannot even enter the hall and I am an elected councillor so have to sit back whilst the others oversee the voting. Municipal and european are different and I then have to take part in the administration duties for the day. If you have not registered before the 31st December and this is every year, it does not carry over automatically as I found out one year when our voting cards arrived and then were duly taken back because the secretaire in the mairie had not re-registered us again for the particular year, some dept may vary though as is the case usually in France.
