jon griffin
We are interested in a small house purchase but we have a concern that the fosse is next to the kitchen in a garage. It is also concreted in.We are worried that smells will come into the house and that its even legal. The owner has told us it was installed about 10 years ago. Cassis
There should be some kind of access to it for cleaning. Is it ENTIRELY concreted in? You're not the Jon Griffin who played rugby for Blackheath, are you?

Cassis
Sounds an utterly bizarre arrangement if it can't be emptied of solids once in a while. I had to ask about the rugby. Not related. [:D]
Babbles
It doesn't sound as though it will comply to the new regs, are you in a village with drains as you will have to join into those , and fill in or remove the fosse[+o(] I'm assuming that as they are in a garage that there isn't room in the garden? We viewed a house in the Gard with this kind of set up and was going to prove too costly to fix it, so I suggest that if you continue with the purchase that you get a quote to fix it and make it a clause suspensive with a price attached to it so you don't end up footing the costs. The smell when it was being emptied was appalling, and it seemed to seep into every part of the house. The smell, that is...[+o(]
