herbets87
HiWe are selling our house after owning it for 7 years. We applied for a permis to change the adjoining barn into part of the house in 2000 & work was carried out in 2001/2002 by french artisans - with all the relevant receipts as proof of work. We moved into the house in May 2002.Our notaire has told us that we may be liable to TVA of 19.7% on that portion of the house as it is classed as a new construction & TVA is payable if you move within five years of the work being carried out. Could anyone clarify the rules & regs for me as it's a unforseen moving cost which could potentially stop us from moving for another year. Sunday Driver
If your notaire has told you that, then I'd be inclined to take his word for it. Being the expert in these matters, he's far better qualified to give you advice than anyone on this forum.....

If you don't believe him, ask another. You may be in a postion to negotiate the relative value of each 1/2 of the property.
