Pas delle yeux Rhône qua nous
We live near Portsmouth and have a place in Central Brittany. Now that P&O are pulling out of Portsmouth we are looking at alternative routes. We have flown to Dinard on a few occasions, which is great but this demanded a trek up to Stansted (now Luton). I've often thought it must be possible to fly from Southampton Airport (only 20 mins away) to Guernsey and then ferry/cat from Guernsey to St Malo (an hour away from Chez Nous in France). Has anyone else done this? If so, how practical is it and is it do-able for a long weekend? Of course, if Ryanair or Flybe were to start flying Southampton to Dinard, it would be a dream come true for us; we could be door to door in under 3 hours but there's no sign of that happening in the near future..... BJSLIV
I suppose Flybe's new routes Southampton to Brest and Cherbourg are at least a step in the right direction.

Russethouse
You might find Guernsey an unattractive option in the winter, I seem to remember flights are fairly frequently cancelled due to fog.......
Chris_Haze
In theory this should be a good way to travel, but its true that Guernsey can often be fog bound. We lived there for ten years and cant tell you how many aborted trips we had because flights couldn't get off the island, same problem coming back to Guernsey by air after trips away. The fastcat service from Guernsey to St Malo is excellent, but this used to stop to pick up passengers at Jersey (don't know if it still does), so is a longer journey than you would think. So all in all, not a practical way to travel if you only have a weekend to spend in France, although if you had more time and the weather were good it would be a lovely trip.Hazel
