Sprogster
According to official figures, while neither British Airways nor BMI cancelled any flights to France due to the strikes last week, Ryanair cancelled 123 flights and Easyjet 48, on Tuesday alone. These figures say it all, in that if BA and BMI could operate their flights so could Ryanair and Easyjet if they had wanted. The reason they did not is that rather than take the risk and try, they took the pre-emptive decision to cancel, being the cheaper option to them. Bones
I've been reading the various posts regarding the recent flight cancellations and am surprised that nobody has mentioned the fact that the airport staff at Carcassonne are all fonctionnaires.I would have thought that this would have had an impact on Ryanair's cancellations? The Riff-Raff Element
I'm confused - I thought that the flight cancellations were because airtraffic control types were out on strike: how could anyone operate anyflights at all? Have I got this wrong? That said, the strike does seemto have been patchy - our rubbish got collected, post delivered and theécole public was open here and these are usually happy to down toolsfor any strike going. Stefan
jondSorry for the late reply. In a nutshell only some elements of ATC were on strike so a limited ATC service was available. Some airlines took the risk and tried to operate some flights, others cancelled everything.
