LEO
update. The Port of Dover has reopened after winds of nearly 80mph battered the South East coast. Gusty winds of up to 69 knots were recorded in the English Channel off the coast of Kent and Sussex, according to Dover Coastguard. The port was reopened at 1500 GMT on Thursday but passengers have been told to expect delays. Kent Police implemented Operation Stack, closing a section of the M20, because of the disruption. The A249 Sheppey Way at Old Ferry Road and the Sheppey crossing were also closed because of high winds. A spokesman for Dover Coastguard said: "There were recorded gusts of 69 knots, force 12, which is hurricane strength, in the harbour. "The port reopened at 3pm and the winds have quite dramatically dropped."
