Sam
We are moving to the Auvergne in early April and are casting around for removals quotes. We would be grateful for names of people/firms to go with, or those to avoid. Euro-Movers on the face of it seems to be best , but has anyone any good or bad experience to share? Please be sure to reply by PM if naming bad names! Many thanks, Sam
cooperlola
Britannia were excellent and did exactly what it said on the tin. However, like so many of these companies, they are franchised, so I guess experiences vary from place to place (we moved from Kent - Paddock Wood "branch".) Mayennaise
We also used Britannia (franchise = Leatherbarrows, Christchurch, Dorset). Excellent service - highly recommend them and fairly reasonable to boot.
Catalpa
I'm in the process of getting quotes for our stuff to come out of storage. If there are any "must avoids" please PM the names to me too. [:)]

No good recommending someone who is 200 miles away from you.
Janeandalan
We have used ET Brokers twice to move stuff from Surrey to Languedoc. They find out how much you are taking and then match you to a Removals company for the best price. We had 2 different companies and they were both excellent. woolybananasbrother
Years ago I used a company on the south coast called I think Q House. They were truly excellent. They used to advertise in one of the France or Living France mags.

Nearly Retired (I am now)
I don't think they have ever been really competitive (for that, read "pricey"), but I read in the Thunderer yesterday that the US owner of good old Pickfords is in a financial pickle - what with nobody moving much over there just now. They seem to think this pickle may extend to Pickfords in UK too. Jamesdee
We used a company called Steeles, from Barrow in Furness, on two occasions. They travel to France all the time and were very competitively priced for a half load, which on one occasion they picked up from Portsmouth. Very good service, pleasant staff, collected and delivered on time and to the price we had previously agreed.[:D][:D]
Lou
We used ******, and weren't very happy with them. As someone said earlier they are franchises, so will obviously vary. However one of the reasons we chose them was that in their contract they promised not to sub-contract the removals - but we subsequently found out that this didn't apply to other ****** franchises....... with the result that our stuff was moved from one ******* warehouse to another before coming out to us, and apparently included a long period sitting in one of their yards in the rain - so we had some soggy stuff and, I have to say, a fair bit of damage from it having been moved around so much. Sam
Many thanks to everyone who has responded to the original question. Several good recommendations and a couple of "stay away froms" which is exactly what we wanted.Sam
St_Jacques
Hi - we used Wheadons Removals of Crawley for our move here to Germany last year. I cannot praise them enough! They worked so hard even through the torrential rain which lasted throughout. Highly recommended.Dale
Beemer1150
We used Brittania - the Exeter branch - and can't speak too highly of them. Short notice move; same driver picked up from Devon and delivered to Charente Maritime after a month's storage. He hit a 'jour ferries' which he didn't expect which was due the day after delivering to us. He and his mate adapted to it and accepted it with great versatility and humour. We managed a day's unloading in three hours, fed and watered them and got them to a convenient parking place in a town with some facilities in the nick of time...Highly recommended for personal touch and adaptability.
