phylisbide
Hi - just wondered if there was any news about Brive - is there an opening date yet or any suggestion of who might operate to the UK? Have looked recently at their website and it didn't appear to have anything new. Thanks, Phylis.
Clair
Nothing much to report. The works were still going on when I last drove past a few weeks ago.Previous thread about Brive airport:http://www.completefrance.com/cs/forums/944915/ShowPost.aspxhttp://www.completefrance.com/cs/forums/790816/ShowPost.aspx
Biggles
I understand there is a shortfall in the finances of about 10 million Euros. From what I have heard ( but have been unable to confirm) is that a major backer wanted a bigger stake in the project but didn't want to put any more money in. Naturally the other investors didn't think this a good idea as it would have diluted their share. The major backer decided not to play ball. This has had the effect of delaying any work and putting the finish date back by several months. The last time I pedalled past, the runways were there but only the base hardcore. There was no evidence of the services (ie electric, water, fuel, buildings etc). Don't expect much progress in the near future.Regards
Biggles
I have it on good authority that the hole in the accounts has been repaired and the work will continue. It does mean, however, that the opening date is likely to be in 2009. Still no word on who will operate there.Regards
WJT
Thank you for the update Biggles, it is the first bit of news I've heard about it for a long time. A little disappointed to hear it won't run until 2009 though. [:(]
Biggles
I know Joanna Simm of FrenchPropertyLinks has been trying to find out the latest news on the airport. Hard facts are difficult to come by, but her article probably represents the latest info on the progress ( or lack of it ) on the airport.http://www.frenchpropertylinks.com/essential/brive-airport.htmlBest wishes
Clair
According to THIS ARTICLE, Brive airport should be ready in 2009 ?The airport website suggests flights to London will come a year or two after flights to Paris start operating...
phylisbide
Someone suggested the other day that the tarmac is in place - is this the case? Presumably buildings will not take too long as they are usually fairly basic constructions - any thoughts? Can't wait to see who flies from UK and when...phylis

Cat
Well spotted Clair. As the first year's flights are to be internal flights only, looks like no UK flights until at least 2011 then.

Iceni
Report in today's La Depeche du Midi (if I translated correctly) claims that work on the control tower will start in mid-May and the airport will be handed over to the operators latest June 2010. Flights to Paris and a low-cost to GB are mentioned. Hopefully enough airlines will still be in business to make it work.John
WJT
Thank you for the update, that is very good news. The Sarlat bypass is also scheduled for June 2010. Hopefully this means it may be a very good year.[:)]
