valB
A doctor on the radio this morning has stated that it has not been proven yet that so called Swine Flu is any different to normal flu and normal flu kills thousands every year around the world. Also, bearing in mind that the area of Mexico where it started is a very poor area and if they have a Flu virus maybe correct medication was not always availabe so it could be the secondary ailments that would have contributed to the deaths. The people in England that have been diagnosed with it have a mild version of Flu, alledgedly. The doctor blamed media hype for the worry that people are feeling. We are off to Uk soon so maybe the French government may stop the English from enterting France as France appears to be clear of it so far. Oh dear, a nice long holiday in England could be on the cards [:)]
mattjazz
I like the way that earlier in the week it was "gripe porcine", and now the French are calling it "gripe mexicaine". Good ole farmers protecting their product.
Théière
A blonde lady from Essex (aledgedly)Went to fill up her car at the petrol station but began to sneeze, she was very concerned and phoned her partner.... Iceni
Having checked Wikipedia the swine flu episode may correctly be described as a pandemic (but unsure whether it meets the sustainability criterion) though for most of us the word has connotations of millions dead as in Spanish Flu 1918. Will this latest example of the experts going into panic mode set a new Guiness World Record of smallest number killed in an alleged pandemic or new headlines to rival Small earthquake in Chile, not many dead ?Bad luck Gordon et al, back to disaster govt for the leader writers next week.John
Frederick
Seems some globe trotter pig farmer has returned from holiday in Mexico and given the flu to his pigs .....that must have really upset them......What next then a ban on farmers movement ? ....make them dip. their wellies and wash their hands and wear masks if they leave the farm ? KathyF
It isn't officially a pandemic yet, though that's still a possibilty. Since it's barely a couple of weeks since the words 'swine flu' hit the public consciousness, it's a bit early to dismiss it out of hand, surely? Previous pandemics started with a wave of mild illness and then came back much more severely in second and third waves of infection in the autumn and winter.
