LD Lines to Boulogne has finally arrived

Recommended Posts

It's actually an LD Lines service rather than a Transmanche one. LD Lines is using spare capacity on one of the two Transmanche ships, which it operates on behalf of the French local authority consortium, between Newhaven and Dieppe. It made use of this spare capacity last year by operating a service, now discontinued, between Newhaven and Le Havre. The Dover-Boulogne service started in February this year and the Transmanche ship, Cote d'Albatre, will be joined by a new fast ferry at the end of this month.

The 'special fare' in the link applies to the new catamaran, the Norman Arrow, which is nothing at all to do with Transmanche. It is owned by an Irish leasing company and chartered to LD Lines.

Hope it's easier to get off the cat than it was to get off LD boat in Dover last night.

Perfect sailing conditions. Not very many of us on board. About 10 minutes late setting off from Boulogne. Held on passenger deck for 15-20 mins after docking at Dover. Then another 20 mins on car deck before they opened the door.

No staff around to give any explanation. Port swarming with customs people - don't know if that had anything to do with it, although couldn't see any car searches being made.

Not anything to do with this email I received then ...

**MORE than 100 vehicles were stopped by police as motorists rolled on and off the

ferries at Plymouth's Millbay Docks. The vehicles were stopped as they travelled

to or from Roscoff in France and Santander in Spain. Three people were arrested,

one on suspicion of drink driving and two for driving while disqualified. In

addition, six vehicles were impounded after officers found the drivers had no

licence or insurance and 11 fixed penalty notices were issued for vehicle

defects. Similar operations have been carried out both at other ports in the UK

and at ferry ports abroad. **
