Busy Bee
Please could anyone point me in the right direction for finding out fire regulations. We have converted our big old house into 2 apartments, we live in one and are planning to rent out the upstairs which has it's own exterior staircase. We have put fireproof plasterboard all around the old fireplace, put fire doors between the entry and the attic and the whole place has been rewired (by a french artisan). We will also install smoke alarms.Does anyone have any experience of this and know of anything else we should do? Thanks
Gardian
No knowledge I'm afraid, but what you describe sounds very thorough. Why don't you drop in to the local fire station? They'd probably be pleased to be asked and someone would quite possibly come by your place to give it the once-over.
Busy Bee
That's a good idea, thanks for that. We live in a small town, so it's good to get to know the locals as well - they may know someone who wants to rent it as well!
Gardian
they may know someone who wants to rent it as well!
Indeed! The thing is that they'll record their visit to your premises, so whilst that doesn't make you immune from fire problems (God forbid), you would at least be able to demonstrate 'diligence'.Leave it for a week or two and they'll have a 2008 calendar under their arm - best €10 - €20 you could ever spend. I'm tucking my note aside for their impending visit.
