Russethouse
Perhaps Flybe from nearby Southampton is too close for competition ?
krusty
" Ryanair, the world’s favourite airline, today (18th Dec) announced that it will add one new Boeing 737-800 aircraft (2 in total) and open four new routes (16 in total) from its Bournemouth base to Fuerteventura, Ibiza, Malta and Valencia from late March 2010. This brings Ryanair’s investment in Bournemouth to two aircraft worth over $140million." 4 new routes taking the total to 16 .....so France could still be in there. I can see Carcasonnone is still on Ryanair website (but no flights listed yet) and they did operate to Limoges this summer (2009). So time will tell . Stefan
Market forces strike again - looks like Ryanair reckons people are now more willing to spend money flying to the Sunshine resorts than to rural France.
Sprogster
I think Stefan is correct, in that demand for flights from the UK to rural France are in decline, in favour of sunshine destinations preferably outside the eurozone. The days of plane loads of Brits dececending on France house hunting are behind us. Although Spain and the Canaries are in the eurozone, depth of recession in those places means much better value can be found with regards to eating out and accomodation. Just back from northern Spain and surprised how much cheaper it is than France.
