LEO
go to Google Mapstype in Rennes - then click directionsthen type Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG)job done!
audio
Thank you all for your suggestions.I had hoped for a route from personal experience as computer generated routes from say Google and the AA normally route the shortest way, not necessarily the best. As I mentioned, I am going on a Sunday, I understand that the traffic into Paris can be pretty bad on the peripherique on this day.
cooperlola
From here (I'm a bit closer than you but the route's the same), I'd say leave the car at home and take the TGV.There are direct trains, even on a Sunday.(Can a mod' get rid of that horrid long link as this page is very hard to post on, being so wide?[:)])
audio
Thank you CooperlolaThe train does sound practical but getting to Rennes station from here is difficult. I am also travelling with my dog (bought him near you at 72320 Saint-Ulphace). After the last time, never, ever again with him on the TGV. I see what you mean about the wide page. Mr Coeur de Lion
Last time I flew from CDG was on a Sunday (in early July). Hardly any traffic about at all. My flight was 11am, so I had to be there by 9am.I drove up from the Loire Valley, so a similar route once on the outskirts of Paris, but I'd advise taking the autoroute, it's simpler and the airport is well sign posted. Just follow signs for Lille, and then airport signs will follow. This is the anti clockwise direction. Are you flying with your dog?
audio
Signs to Lille, that’s a good tip and I will take the autoroute. Unfortunately, I won’t be there until about 1700 when I understand the route is busy.Yes flying (long haul) with my dog, Mrs A and the cat are coming along too. Mr Coeur de Lion
Flying from T1 then?Lucky things. Staying there long? I hope to get out in mid December. Need to pop to the embassy in Paris to get me one of those student visa thingys first.
cooperlola
Let me know how it goes. I want to go to Petit LM one day (without dog).
audio
No it's T2E at CDG.Staying for 6 months. If your wondering about the car, I will leave it there, it's a rental.Petit LM, I guess you mean Indianapolis. I have not been there but I would expect it's expensive and busy during the 500. Russethouse
Atlanta, GA with AirFrance
Co incidence - I'm flying to Atlanta on the 20th, flying Delta (Atlanta is there Hub apparently) from Heathrow and the dreaded terminal 4 [:(]Only 10 days for me though......Are you going to be located in Atlanta or further afield ? I'd rather fly direct from here if poss but have heard mixed reviews, as it were, about Air France. I only flew with them once and that was to Malta and they were fine (oh and once to Reims from Heathrow but it was company and first class so doesn't really count!) but for a long haul some first hand experience would be interesting. audio
Hello Russethouse,Sorry, I do not like Atlanta city and the airport is worse in my opinion, so not stopping there. You are right, Delta has a base there. Driving down to Florida. We do not fly because of the animals, one sector is enough for them.I think that LHR T4 is up and running properly now.Have a good trip. Don't be put off by my comments on ATL, there are plenty of very nice places nearby.

Expensive, poor service, cramped and have a poor safety record. As for Paris CDG well!!!Why do I use them? They are the only ones that I know of that take animals to the US from france. Going from the UK, flights are nearer to my final destination, cheaper, more comfortable and safer BUT travelling from France to the UK from my residence is very difficult and the carriage of dogs is extremely expensive. Mr Coeur de Lion
What type of visa did you get in order to be able to stay that long? How was the interview and did it take long to get a decision?

Russethouse Warning/Advice AtlantaDepending on which airline and arrival terminal, you may have to board a transit train. This requires another security screening after immigration checks even if you continue your journey by road.Do not buy any expensive liquids such as drink or perfume, they will be confiscated. This applied to Air France earlier this year, Delta I do not know but it may have all changed by now. Just strange that on that web page they give the embassy address to apply for non immigrant visas. For paperwork, I'm planning on taking proof of ownership of my two properties here in France, my rental contract for my house, settlement agreement between my wife and I (this shows that the properties will become solely mine once divorced), building permission for one of my properties as I intend to renovate it after my studies in the US; bank statements for the past 3 months (Australian accounts showing I have plenty of money, French accounts proving my address in France); my certificates, TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) results. Oh and of course proof that I have acceptance from an American college to do the course I want to do.Who did you use to translate French documents? Can you recommend any other documents to take?Do you think that's good enough in your experience?I know it's very hard to get in, I am stressing about it, but I will do my best. audio
Had a look at ATL, Delta arrives at concourse E, same as AF.So you have to board the transit to the main terminal after security screening. If you really want to buy liquid duty free during the flight or at LHR, you may be able to place these in your checked bags at ATL after immigration and before you board the train.
