TWINKLE
I spent 3 glorious days in and around Massat last week with my tribe. Certainly not long enough for a holiday but as we're both working musiciens that's all we can fit in during the summer months.I was playing there with one of my bands a few weeks ago and fell in love with the place. There are about 20 or so different walking circuits to try out which take you into woods and around lakes and up mountains. It's at 650m altitude and September is really the best time of year to visit (quiet - and weather is just right for walking and horse riding and canoeing) don't forget a pull-over for the evening! These fabulous horses are everywhere you look - just living their lives free in the hills, they originate from a village called Merens. I am unfortunately allergic to horses, but my husband and 7 year old daughter rode them through the forests every day. Just wanted to share that with you[:)]
Smiley
Hi Twinkle, lovely to hear praise for Ariege, I went there to do a weeks work, fell in love with place an bought a house there. Try to spend more than 3 days at a time though. It's fantastic all year round. A winter wonderland with all the snow, amazing scenery and wildlife all year round. TWINKLE
Just looked at your web-site Smiley - what a coincidence! I played at Belesta a few times in my younger days! Wonderful place for trout fishing and 'la chasse aux cèpes'.
Smiley
Hi Twinkle. The trout fishing I'd agree with but not heard of 'la chasse aux cèpes'. Sorry my French is not brilliant, a hunt of some sort?
