Weedon
Imagine my surprise upon taking my morning shuffle round the estate!! with my 2 dogs and spotting 3 deer in the stubble field next door. Very often one of the dogs stares into one or other of the fields that surrounds us and barks at (I think) imaginary potential intruders. Today I thought she had taken exception to 12 large rolls of straw about 75 yards away until I spotted 3 brown deer about the size of Great Danes standing there. Anybody know what kind they were?It may be why a couple of days ago the same dog went scatty and tore round the garden her nose just off the ground until she lay by the fence and pleaded, by whining, to go into the next field. Perhaps the deer have been here for a few days?
chris pp
Evidently young deer, but brown, if unspotted, sounds like Sika deer. Having said that the spots soon disappear on Roe deer and Red deer in your region, best identification is by shape, size and position of ears and their tail characteristics.Chris
