mooky
What a beautiful day its been. I have just spent the last hour looking up into a clear blue sky. There are also lots and lots of objects that look like they are dancing across the sky. Long cobwebby fragile l lengths of something that are flying quite high. I think I see them every year about now. Please they are magical, what are they? Cassis
Probably spiders flying on lengths of gossamer.

Chris Head
That's a little harsh isn't it Dick, what have Mooky or Cassis done to you to deserve that title?
mooky
I love fairies. I would love to know about the flying spiders though; They went so high. Is it spiders or their eggs?
Cassis
It's the spiders. They spin a length of gossamer and fly off on the wind - like hanging on the end of a kite string. What a gay sight they are!
Meg
I think they just shoot out a wotsit and it carries in the breeze until it lands on something, then Mr/Mrs Spider can scuttle along and start a web.I saw loads today as well but put it down to the low sun illuminating stuff differently.I could be totally wrong though.Louise

mooky
sorry didn't know this was an english lesson. I've been looking for information on the web. I find the action is called spider ballooning. Lovely.
Dick Smith
Well, Mooky, clearly it wasn't an effective English lesson, as you started 'English' without a capital letter...Faeries are supernatural creatures between earth and heaven, They can be good or evil and control human destiny. Fairies are things at the bottom of the garden that live in flowers. Some of them can be a bit brutal.Thaks to Phil for his input.
mooky
Thank you Dick. I know my Spenser too. No comment on your sarcasm. I have found more information on spiders ballooning now I know they are spiders. Nature is so wonderful.
Dick Smith
My profoundest apologies Moooky - do you suppose I might just have been responding to your initial sarcasm? Especially as you know your Spenser... (which if you read my post isn't at all what I was talking about, of course).
Chris Head
Mooky, stick around and you'll get to know Dicks eccentricities. Whimsical sarcasm to Dick is like showing Dracular a drunk virgin at 2am!

Tresco
Chris, that photo is fantastic! I'm walking into threads all the time. I was in danger of getting mummified yesterday. Now I can send this picture to all my town dwelling friends and family, so they'll know what I'm talking about (for once)[:)]
