Katieb
I usually buy niger seeds for my bird feeder, but seem unable to locate any in the shops this year, i have tried several garden centres around me and the larger supermarkets - does anybody have any ideas where i could purchase some - if indeed they are called niger seeds here - they attract the greenfinch and goldfinches to my garden. Whilst on the bird feeding subject, does anybody order bird food by mailorder - i certainly do not find people to be so bird friendly over here compared to the UK.Thanks in advance for any bird feeding tips or ideasKate
kizpip
I don't know about niger seeds but we find that sunflower seeds (easily available in Intermarché and LeClerc in our area) attract greenfinches, goldfinches, chaffinches, hawfinches, tits, bramblings, nuthatches and squirrels - enough to keep anyone entertained! Katieb
Thanks both for your replies- i certainly find bird food more costly here than in the UK, may have to save up to buy them the niger seeds!.Kate
Pat and Don
We plant a section of the garden with sunflowers and then save the seedheads to ration out head by head throughout winter too. Flowers and food too!
