Sfgraveston
I am working my way through Pagnol's Chateau de ma mere and cannot find the meaning of SAYRE. From the context I believe it to be a sort of bird. Anyone know better?ThanksStuartDoucement le matin, pas trop vite le soir
letrangere
Can you give us the context please? Feeling quite ashamed here as I've read the book twice...M
Helios
The answer is........... Tourdres and Sayres are both thrushes/grives from the 'Passereaux' family of birds. Pagnol has expressed himself in the typically Provencal language. Tourdres are small thrushes and Sayres are bigger thrushes, hence the difference in the price of the two. They are also called 'Chacha' by the locals here.
Helios
ps. 'Cero' and 'Draine' are other Provencal words for the same bird. Sorry if I'm boring you now!
