Albert the InfoGipsy
Many learners of French may not be aware that the names of letters are pronounced differently from the English alphabet. For example, English consonants that end in 'ee' change to 'ay' (bay, say, day...). This can cause some unexpected problems. In my brother in law's family I am known (long story!) as 'le gentil petit Albi', abbreviated to 'GPA'. Yesterday we were doing the same thing with the names of other members of the family. Sylvie was appointed head navigator ('GPS') and we thought that Leo would keep everyone warm ('GPL') but when we got to Thierry everybody just burst out laughing.I leave this as an exercise for the reader.
