Kitty
I am looking after two goldfish for someone during the French school holidays. I have read that I need to buy water conditioner to help balance the water properly.Does anyone know what the French would be for 'water conditioner'? Ysatis
Hi Cathy,I know exactly the stuff you need. I don't know what the word is in French, but having a stab in the dark, what about 'traitement d'eau'.

Ysatis
The solution Cathy needs is to make tap water safe for fish. It neutralises chlorine, chloramine and heavy metals which are harmful to fish.
Ron Avery
You only need to bother about this if you clean out the bowl/tank. Take out the fish and keep them in the water from the tank, clean out the tank, fill it up with tap water, leave for a hour or so to get to the same temperature as that where the fish are, put the fish back in. Kitty
Thank you to all of you and a special thank you to Ron [kiss] - he knows why [;-)].I've just come back from the pet shop. They did say to change the water - they recommend using mineral water because it has fewer harmful chemicals in it and it is already at room temperature (assuming you haven't kept it in the fridge [Www]).I have discovered that water conditioner is a product for neutralising chlorine. So I did buy it. It also reduces stress or so the label says. How can it reduce stress? Perhaps I should drink it...There doesn't appear to be French for water conditioner. It is 'Une eau adaptée a la vie de vos poissons'.
