Thanks Frenchie

If I was to put j'arrive would that be wrong ? as this is for my home work and the future tense has not really been covered yet , although I have worked on it my self , I dont want to be seen as getting ahead of my self ....

Thanks

That brings back old memories of my French teacher saying that after "quand" you must use the logical tense.

and, logically, you are going to arrive in the future so that's the tense to use.

If you don't want to use a future tense for fear of showing off, perhaps you could use a noun instead - something like "a mon arrivee"

Just a guess from a rusty old git.

Many years ago I visited my friend here for a weekend (I now live in the next village) I was doing my French homework and like you we hadnt covered the future tense, at that stage I couldnt even concieve what a tense was, anyway my friend helpfully corrected my "j'arrive à huit heures" to become "jarriverai à huit heures".

The evening class teacher that I had at that time who was a complete b1tch and as it turned out not even trained as a teacher (she had been working as an au pair) went ballistic, told me it was wrong and didnt even have the decency to explain that I had used a tense that we had yet to cover.

Another time I told her that I had heard j'avais used in conversation (we had not covered the imparfait), she asked me how it was spelt, I replied "dunno, I suppose J - A - V - E - Z" to which she scowled  "ça n'existe pas" .

I changed schools and counties the next time and my next teacher turned out to be the best ever, native French and a proffessional teacher.

If yours is anything like mine Pads, by that I mean she hated the fact that I was learning and picking up the languge outside of the classroom then I would stick to "j'arrive"

Funny how we both were corrected on the same verb and tense!

This teacher is my second one and so much better than my first ... she is very happy Im learning out side the class but I have the rest of the class to think about , they also need to understand what I say and write.

Funny this teacher actually comes not far from where I am in france which is now a great help with local accent as I am finding that people now understand what Im saying ...where as my first teacher was english and learnt her french in paris.

learning has become so much more pleasure with my new teacher as she has a great sense of humour
