Pads Posted October 12, 2010 Share Posted October 12, 2010 If some thing is female its elle est , if male il est .Now if you talking about a object ( it ) you go with the sex M or F of the noun ...or is it changed to il because its a object .... Clare Jones Posted October 12, 2010 Share Posted October 12, 2010 Yes you say la maison est grande or elle est grande; le café est chaud (hot) or il est chaud. There is a third option and that's c'est. You use this when you are not really refering to a specific object. Let's say you just want to tell someone that what they are doing is great.
