Boiling a frog
Me, I have a French bank account, so will gladly accept a cheque drawn on a French bank, Camp sites in Spain have also accepted my French cheques .Makes no difference where the cheque is written. andyh4
It does make a difference to what it will cost to have the money put into your account though. A French Eurocheque posted to my German account cost me 21€ - this in the short period when German banks accepted Eurocheques after the introduction of the Euro. Today they probably would not accept a cheque at all.
EuroTrash
But who is going to accept a French cheque outside France? Note French cheque and not Eurocheque.
I think probably a lot of people live in the UK, have a French cheque book, and post a cheque to France to pay e.g. their taxe d'habitation? Alan Zoff
How specific should you be? I'm usually sitting on the lav at the time. (Well, when I'm writing cheques at home, that is.)
Loiseau
Really, ET? When i pay my gardener, i put "fait à Londres" if i am writing it from home. Does this create problems? She has never said so so far.Angela
EuroTrash
Loiseau - no it doesn't create any problems in normal circumstances. It simply means it's subject to slightly different banking regulations. Can't remember the details but I think that one difference is, the length of time the cheque remains valid for. But since most people including me and probably your gardener don't know how long cheques remain valid for anyway, no one's going to worry. The fact the cheque was written outside France would only come into play if there was any dispute or question about its validity.

I was referring to someone writing a French cheque (it matters not where it was written) and it being put into a bank outside of France.

I thought the thread was all about writing a cheque, not accepting a cheque.
