Archers
Hi All,Hopefully not too strange a request... I'm trying to confirm the French translation for the following motivational quote I'm using with a sports team:"The pain will pass, defeat will stay with me forever."I've come up with: "La douleur va passer, la défaite va rester avec moi pour toujours."Different online translators have had slight variations, and I really want to ensure it is written as a native French speaker would phrase it.If anyone could give any advice as to the accuracy of my attempt and if there's a better way of writing it, it'd be much appreciated. Thanks! Loiseau
I am sure Clair will be along soon to give a perfect translation, but I would suggest it might be better in the present tense:La douleur passe ; la défaite reste avec moi toujours.AngelaPS. EuroTrash
Maybe échec sounds more emotive than défaite - depends what you're referring to, of course.
Clair
For what it's worth, I'd say:"La douleur passera, mais la défaite restera avec moi pour toujours."Future tense makes it sound more solemn; défaite would be better than échec in this instance as it balances the sentence better (longer word); défaite is also used for sporting failure. Archers
Thanks for your help everyone - and also for the welcome to the forum :)I think we will go with Clair's version as I really like the solemness and sound of it, but really appreciated everyone's input. Pierre ZFP
After reading through this thread it struck me that this is an un-motivational quote along the lines of 'Well, if you mess this up, you'll remember it forever'How about something more upbeat like 'The winner feels no pain'It was just a thought.....
