PaulT
Would I be right that the abbreviation for UK in French would be RU (Royaumme Uni)?
EuroTrash
Yes, but they generally write it out in full (Royaume Uni), depending on context.Out of context, the average French person would probably have to scratch their head quite hard to think what RU might stand for. woolybanana
Yes, Eurotrash is quite right; better write it out to be safe.I always put Angleterre just to be sure!
PaulT
Thanks for that....I was just redoing some address cards (address and phone numbers) double sided with one side French details and the other side UK details and they are credit card size.On the French side I had once again put our French number against 'FR', then our mobile numbers and finally our UK number against 'UK' but then thought is there a French abbreviation - not enough space for Royaumme Uni and the number. Looks like I will have to leave it as UK and hopefully the dialing code will give it away.
NormanH
You also see GB sometimes for Grande Bretagne
EuroTrash
I agree with Norman - put GB.RU they may well think Russia, UK they will more than likely come up with Ukraine. But everyone's (I would imagine!) heard of Grande Bretagne and seen GB stickers on cars.Or do what I do and use little national flag icons! idun
I always put G-B. Because it is used for our cars and works in both languages.
PaulT
Many thanks - had not thought about GB so will use that.
