Le chagrin et la pitie

For those of you in the SE of England, this documentary of Marcel Ophuls is being shown at the National Film Theatre SE1. I believe it's very long - 3-4 hours - but worth seeing. It's about French collaboration with the nazis in WW2 and caused a stir in France when it came out in the ?70s. Pat.

Pat, it's an amazing film, I saw it in London years ago. At the time (unlike now), I'm ashamed to say I wasn't that interested in the theme and sat through it primarily out of curiosity. It's referred to in an early(ish) Woody Allen where it's used to demonstrate yet another of his character's neurotic obsessions. (It was the character's "favourite" film.) Seriously heavy going but bearable once every decade or so. Would be interested to hear what TonyF has to say about it.
