SaligoBay
It's in French by an American called Ted Stanger. It's an American's view of why the Americans and the French remain locked in their strange love/hate relationship.Lots of interesting little observational snippets. In fact, there's probably something worth discussing on every page so far (I haven't finished it yet, so I don't know how long he keeps this up).Seems quite good-humoured.Anyone read it? 5 euros on Amazon if you fancy it, can't say fairer than that. SaligoBay
Just finished it, enjoyed it very much.Good-natured explanations of the things about France that confuse us all at some time. Why is customer service so bad? Why do French people put up with such a ludicrous amount of administration and state control? Culinary centre of the universe, yet according to surveys their national dish is steak-frites, with couscous in second place, and McDo consumption is second only to the US. Trying to find a pharmacie open on a Sunday evening, paying off the Credit Lyonnais debt, politicians, the press...... it's all here, and it's really quite funny.Lent to me by a French person, btw, who also enjoyed it.
