Russethouse
Just added quite a weighty French tome to my reference library and notice that as usual with French reference books the chapter headings are listed at the back and there is no index in the way I would normally expect, this is an encyclopedia too !Are all French reference books like this or is this lack of a useful index confined to pottery reference books ? SaligoBay
Gay, I've found the same in French cookery books. Where we would expect an index, they have a repeat of what we would call the Contents list. A complete waste of space!! In very new publications that were originally published abroad (like the Australian Women's Weekly cookbooks) there might be a "real" index.Sadly, indexing just doesn't seem to be a French art. It's even more annoying than printing the spine the wrong way up.
Hauxwell
And they say that a book is only as good as its index, (with obvious referance to "referance" books of course)!Chrissie H.
Russethouse
I find it very frustrating as I often have to look things up, its difficult enough as my French is not good at all, but with no actual index............and some of these books are in the £50+ bracket..........sorry, pet gripe!
