Disgusted last night

I wasn't sure where to post this, but it sort of boils down to french culture...... I think.

 

Last night we went to a Cafe Conc. As usual free entry and a group we like were playing. Now these are not charity nights, although that in itself implies that one has to fork out to help towards the charity, if the group were playing for free.

I know darned well that the group get paid and that the owner expects to make money on the bar to pay the group. Well at this Cafe Conc it is like that.

And  it is a bar, when all is said and done.

I looked around half way through the first 'act' and about a third of the people in the place did not have a drink. Two separate couple's had one glass in front of them and were sharing a glass of beer, which they still had in front of them an hour later. There were tables with people at them without a glass in site.

On many occassions over the years, I have seen people in bars buy one drink which they will nurse for hours. A very peculiar thing to France, perhaps, I've never seen it anywhere else as yet. And which I think if I were a bar owner, would rather annoy me.

However, after free entry, what on earth were these people playing at last night. They were getting a free concert, which I thought good and they seemed to be enjoying too. But surely they should play the game and at least have a drink in front of them, even if they were doing the 'usual' nursing.

Frankly I would have chucked them out. Really I would. Not only would the takings related to the group not be very good, hence them risking future bookings. But who would really remember later that there had been a 'good' crowd in the place using it's facilities and not contributing towards them.
