Dick Smith
Sad news that Phillippe Noiret has died at the age of 76. He made 125 films - but I think I've only seen about 100 of them!http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/6178834.stm
Christine Animal
Yes, a great actor, that beautiful voice, natural class. It won't be the same without him.
Dick Smith
I think my favourites are Zazie dans le mètro and Les Ripoux, but there is a full filmography here. It's amazing how many great movies he took a part in.
Christine Animal
He was so good in anything, I think Le Vieux Fusil and La Grande Bouffe stand out in my mind, but it's true, there are so many. I feel quite sad.I read the other day that he had a house in l'Aude since thirty years and was married for forty years to Monique Chaumette. Mistral
The first French film I saw at the cinema was ripoux contre ripoux, so I've always had a soft spot for him. Looking at the filmography, I had forgotten he was in so many classic films like Uranus or que la fête commence (still haven't seen les milles) and it has to be said that even if some of the films weren't brilliant (thinking of la fille de d'artagnan) he was always good. He had one of those voices that you could have listened to even if he were reading the phone book.France 3 showed some sort of memorial programme last night, but we've been wondering what (if?) the French channels are going to show in his memory. I still want one of the first 2 ripoux (not the 3rd) but my husband wants Alexandre le Bienheureux
Christine Animal
Did you see the lovely long programme last night on France 3 "Les Feux de la Rampe" where Philippe Noiret was interviewed by Bernard Rapp. He was not only a great actor, but also a wonderful person.I think France 3 are showing Le Vieux Fusil tonight. Mistral
I only got the end because I didn't know they were going to show it; We've recorded le vieux fusil and les ripoux. Tonight there's coup de torchon on Fr2. I've never heard of that one.

Clair
I noticed yesterday yet another US remake of a French film "Le grand blond avec une chaussure noire" made in '72.The ubiquitous Tom Hanks reprised Pierre Richard's role in the poorly received "The man with one red shoe".Pierre Richard played with Philippe Noiret in "Alexandre le Bienheureux" directed by Yves Robert, who also directed "Le grand blond...", with Marlène Jobert, whose daughter Eva Green can be seen as Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale.Les Ripoux is the only French film I know which makes my English friends laugh out loud even when they don't speak French!Le Vieux Fusil is the one Noiret movie that I cannot forget...
