giddy
Bonjour,I'm learning french at Allianz Francase and I was hoping to make a french pen pal to learn more about the French language and culture.I'm an 18 yr old guy. I'm very good at being a penpal btw, I have 2 in far off countries whom i've kept in touch with for years now and I occasionally even exchange snail mail(regular postal mail). I'm hoping to meet someone around 18 -20 yrs old. Thanks so much,
Théière
Are you from Albuquerque?
5-element
Giddy,I think it is unlikely that you will meet a suitable penpal through this forum. Many of us are just plain old foggies, certainly well out of your age range. Good luck, keep trying, but probably not here as it is a waste of your time. Teapot: the guy from Albuquerque was much older = he said he was

5-element
I know exactly what you mean, Teapot. Which is why I hardly contributed to those threads, as I found him spooky. So this could be a reincarnation?Too quiet. Maybe.
mint
Putting my Miss Marples hat on for a moment, does this chap make the same sorts of mistakes as the other one? For example, does he occasionally write "I" in lower case as in "i" and does he sometimes or always neglect to use the French accents in his messages?Does this person share the "voice" of the other?Watch out for the next instalment! 5-element
No, Miss Marples, to the first question. No, Miss Marples, to the second question. Any deductions?
mint
Well then, my dear girl, he's either an imposter or he's covering his tracks to make detection more difficult, don't you see?Now then, what shall we do for the denouement?
5-element
Maybe we should just wait and see for it to dénoue itself.[:)]
giddy
hi,Um.. i'm a little confused now!I don't use accents because I've been learning French properly only for a month now and I don't really know where to put accents(I can see its a important?), i use a *small* 'i' because i'm a young computer geek and i post a lot of questions on technical forums with absolutely brilliant people, so its my way of sounding polite and less egotistic. Is this enough of an un raveling?I want a penpal because I have two, one from Iceland and another from Canada whom I've known for nearly 4 years now, I've even sent letters, coins, postcard overs, its something i like a lot, I find other cultures and countries very interesting, especially since i've never gone out of my country or never been on a plane for that matter. Recently I've found French and France very interesting so i figured i could maybe find a French penpal. I hope i didn't say anything wrong? Thanks so much
mint
Hi, there, Giddy, don't mind us! Me, I'm just a grumpy old woman at best.To explain a little what's been going on. As you might have guessed, there was another poster here who was asking similar questions to yours. Then his posts got weirder and he started sounding off about all sorts of things to do with male/female relationships,He upset a few people on here and a few others started getting their own back or taking the mick out of him.Eventually, he went away, or was thrown out (I'm not sure which).Anyway, that's why you might have heard us having a bit of a joke about this other chap and, if you are not he, then you have nothing to fear. You might be giddy, but you'll get on fine here and I do hope you find someone who will agree to correspond with you.Keep up the good work learning French! It could be a lifelong interest for you.
Benjamin
Maybe one of the teachers on the forum who work in a French school could give your details to someone of a similar age in their class?

Benjamin
Well done giddy. [:D] That certainly smacked it to to them.I've just spoken to my next door neighbours two boys without any success. The 16 year old is into scooters and girls (in that order) and the 20 year old is into girls and motorbikes (in that order).Come on the teachers. Cat
Maybe you could try one of the people here http://www.studentsoftheworld.info/penpals/correspondants.php?Pays_Choisi=FRAIt looks genuine, but sadly (as with many of these kind of sites) there may be a few people lurking there who are not what they seem, and who have other reasons for wanting to talk to young students. So take care.
Frenchie
I could ask one of my BTS students , but they re carrying out a work placement at the moment ( til january.)Would a younger student be Ok for you ? ( 16/17)The problem is that if I say I have one address there will be a riot ! They will ALL want a penpal , I know !!
giddy
Oh, I just turned 18 two months ago so yea, no problem I guess. It would be difficult to correspond with someone who knows very little English though, I would end up using Google Translate a lot then! And its not very accurate. Frenchie
Some of my students have a good level of English for their age. I think of 2 girls in particular.

giddy
I don't know enough french to write a full email, I hope to know by December(which is when my course ends), my English is pretty fluent though.I plan to write in English and a little in French. I emailed someone from that website you mentioned, the person replied completely in French, I could understand around half of the letter, I used google translate for the rest, and I responded in English first, then quite a few sentances in french. =P.Thanks
suein56
... I used google translate for the rest
This site usually gives a more accurate translation, either French to English or vice versa, than google - but I am not giving guarantees with that statement. Just make sure you don't click on the 'human translation' button - as that costs.Sue [:)]
