Franglais24
Hi,Wandered out to the veggie plot late the other evening to find an army of snails helping themselves to my lettuces! Whilst I won't even touch these excuse-for-creatures my better half thinks it would be a good idea to eat them. Our French neighbour has confirmed that this type is safe to eat but we're left wondering how to harvest and prepare them. It occured to us that we could use a beer-baited trap and wait for them to rock up to the free bar, get sloshed and snuff it. But then what?Or do we just drop them in boiling water lobster-style??? Or what? Any form of despatch must surely be more humane than the last supper of a blue pellet!Thanks,"F24"
Dick Smith
I hope someone else will have a better grasp of what you do, but racking my memory from years ago I was told that the snails have to be starved to get rid of waste, then fed on oatmeal to plump them up and at some stage kept in a bucket of water. You then pop them into the boiling water, take them out of the shells, fill the shells with garlic butter and put the snails back in, put in a hot oven etc.Of course there was a strong possibility that my gastropod was being pulled...RegardsDickBONO ANIMO ES
