One (of many) interesting facts he turned up was that when grape harvests outstrip demand the producers can seek permission to distill some of the resulting wine. Mpprh Posted April 20, 2005 Share Posted April 20, 2005 Vignerons used to convert the excess wine to Eau de Vie.They could keep a prescribed quantity and the state took the rest.The allowances were stopped based on the vignerons date of birth, so fewer are entitled to it as years go by.
