Georgina
Finally found a genuine Indian shop in centre of Rennes and had a nice day shopping. On returning home with my goodies, guess what, most of the stuff was produced in England doh!!Georgina[:O]
Mayennaise
GeorginaCan you let me know where it is please. MOH is a keen Indian/Asian cook and we are off to Rennes soon to the Asian Supermarket to stock up so if he is able to replenish his spice cupboard at the same time he will think his all his christmases have come at once. PossumGirl
If you don't live near an Asian supermarket, I found Zenfi, which has a huge selection of all kinds of Asian foods. I ordered mostly Chinese stuff, but they seem to have a good selection of Indian ingredients as well.PG

Dog
Cassava is readily avaible here - peel it roast it or deep fry it. Had it at the weekend with some tamarind sauce - delicious....You don't even need a sauce - give it a go!
Dog
Sorry about my bad spelling and I forgot to say in France Cassava is called Manioc.
Val_2
I saw lots of Manioc today in Intermarché in town and had no idea what it was, still never heard of cassava either. My OH thought it was some kind of potato but not sure, now we know. Where does it come from?

Georgina
Mayennaise, about the Indian shop, I can only direct you from the railway station as I don't know Rennes very well. Come out of the station and walk about 200 yards straight ahead. Walk left at the traffic lights and continue for about another 500 yards and when you hit a nice pottery shop on the right continue until you get to another street and turn right, the shop is on the left near a cafe and another shop selling what I think were smoking pipes. It's in the middle of those, just a small shop but got everything you need. By the way have they built that Ikea yet at Rennes?Georgina
Dog
Cassava came from South America and can be used like a potatoe. It has a grainier fibrous texture a bit like a parsnip - just try it it's delicious.
