londoneye
Hi allI have people coming around tomorrow night for 'finger food' (very un-french!).Anyway, one of the things on my menu list was crispy potatoe skins with sour cream and chive dip (also needed horse radish).I couldn't find horse radish, or sour cream (for future reference what is it called please?).But (!!!) I do have creme fraiche and chives - can I replace the sour cream with creme fraiche does anyone know please ? and something to replace the horse radish ?No time to go back to supermarket now, so any thoughts would be appreciated ... cooperlola
Creme Fraiche always tastes like sour cream to me ! - I am sure you would get away with it.
TWINKLE
You can make your own horseradish sauce. Horseradish in French is - Raifort. Here's an easy recipe for raifort sauce http://www.marmiton.org/recettes/recette.cfm?num_recette=9219
londoneye
Oh dear - I dont have any of the ingredients for making my own horseradish either !!I will try the creme fraiche and bung some chives in - then all I have to do is to get the guests really drunk before they eat - its always worked before ! JayJay
Londoneye, if you fancied a trot to the shop, you can buy horseradish in jars here, but I found it weak & watery.
La Vette
I know it is too late for your soiree (hope it goes well) but sour cream seems to be a thing of the past even in the UK, although Ant Worrel T was talking about it this morning. When I need it I just add a little lemon juice to plain yog or creme fraiche, seems to have the same effect.
