sandra_b
I heard that crepes originated in Bretagne since people could not cultivate enough wheat to make bread. Does anyone know anything a bit more detailed than this? Thanks,[:)]

Patf
So what's the connection with Pancake Day? Isn't that on Shrove Tuesday the first day of Lent in the Christian calendar. Why have pancakes or crepes then?
Cat
To use up all the fat, flour and eggs before fasting for Lent, isn't it?
dans lorbe dune caresse, ma vie séteint
the " crêpes" come from britain ( an area at the west of the France ). And the drink you choose generally is the " cidre"
chrisb
mmm. I'm not sure that Brittany can lay claim to being the origin of the dish - pancakes occur in cuisines and cultures all over the world. The word is obviously French - but which came first - the pancake or the cloth?
Hoddy
I'm sure you're right, chrisb. I think that crepes and related things such as oatcakes and chapatis pre-date bread as the first way to eat cereal.Hoddy
