Food saver vac machines

I bought a cheap Lidl machine a couple of years ago and I use it mainly to vaccum pack meat before freezing.

The machine has two functions, first you vacuum the air out of the bag through a nozzle, then you seal the bag.

However, I have found the roll of plastic supplied with the machine to be very thin and lightweight and totally inadequate, as it renders the seal ineffective.

I bought some specialist bags from Gamm Vert (about €20 for 100, size 20x30cm), which are thick, almost rigid in fact and are much better when sealed.

You must ensure the food is packed as evenly as possible for the air to be vacuumed out.

Allow about 5cm of clear plastic beyond the food.

I have found it easier to seal each edge of the bag at an angle towards the middle of the opening, leaving a 2cm gap which is large enough for the nozzle to fit in (see this video).

I have used one of these machines for about 10 years now and think they are pretty good. As well as using the rolls of plastic for bag making, I also vacuum and seal sandwich bags and freezer bags (bought from Auchan). Much better than those fiddly bits of plastic wire or trying to tie a knot in the bag.

That looks quite promising Clair and he even sounds as if he isn't really trying to sell you anything? Also a bit more informative that "Yes"? [:-))]

We are thinking along the lines of drying fruite and some veggies so that they will be there when everyone is saying that they are looking forward to the season?

Vac wrapping meat too!!!!!!!!!!!! Most important!!!!!!!

We have been looking at one nice little unit that's only 500€, but it does come with the mains cable too!
