Bernice
I've just bought some fresh ginger root - in Intermarché, fruit and veg section. You can get it in most large supermarkets all year round.Bernice
wallifer
Thanks, must have had a senior moment, never thought to look there, do I need to peel it ? The recipe says large piece of fresh ginger, now what's a large piece ??
Cat
When you do find it, use what you need and then pop the rest of the ginger root into a plastic bag and put it in the freezer. It grates well even when frozen, and will keep indefinitely (and saves throwing the rest away). Théière
Once you have bought some you can get it to re-grow at home so you don't have to buy any more.http://www.plantcultures.org/plants/ginger_grow_it.html
Gardengirl
Thanks for that tip - i'd never thought of it; assumed it needed a tropical climate.Jo
tenniswitch
Peel the bit you're using. What's a large piece? Depends on what you're preparing- could be anything from a slice about the size of a 20 centime or euro coin to enough to make a tablespoon (soup spoon) when grated. mint
I don't like grating things as I usually grate my fingers at the same time.I peel it and chop it up really, really small so that it's sort of minced.
gmcneill
Be consevative with how much you use, too much and it will blow your head off. It's what you use in indian cooking to give heat to a dish, and can give more heat than chillies if you use too much.
