soft cream cheese

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I am planning on making a salmon gateau as a starter for christmas dinner (early I know, but you know what they say about the 5 p's!!!) and I am looking for recommendations for the French product/version of a full fat soft cheese and a quality cream that can be used for whipping, has anyone any ideas please?? The recipe has creme fraiche for the dressing, but asks for whipping cream for the cheese filling. I can get to Leclerc, Carrefour, Super U etc, any advice, suggestions greatly received, many thanks in advance

St Môret is the equivalent of Philadelphia though most supermarkets have their own brand version. I don't usually shop at the supermarkets you mention but in the chiller section near the butter there are now numerous creams suitable for whipping unlike a number of years ago when the choice was limited.

Whipping cream:

and, as Lisleoise says, St Moret for plain cream cheese. Own brand ones always seem to have herbs and/or garlic added.
