tina
I'm really motivated to learn how to cook proper French food but I haven't yet found a French cookbook that I really like. I'm not into fancy cooking, but I like good quality simple meals. I know that most French food has some form of meat in it, but it would be great if I could find some vegetarian recipes, since I don't eat any type of meat or fish. Any ideas? Âme
Clair just posted this link on the cottage cheese thread Ma cuisine végétarien I haven't checked out the recipes yet. The only French vegetarian recipe book I have is the 'Marabout chef recettes végétariennes'. Very nice, but it's a translation of 'Vegie Food' originally published in Australia. Clair
There is a good selection on this site: http://www.cuisine-vegetarienne.com/, including a section on basic recipes and a list of vegetarian recipe books.I don't know about you, but I like being able to flick through a recipe book before shelling out. I need to see if it's got pictures, how it's written and if it 'talks" to me!I read this blog, which is bio and almost totally vegetarian.
Âme
Yes, I like to handle a book first to see if it fits. The Marabout one was a gift, the photography is very nice; porn for foodies and it's all matt coated so feels nice to hold. I haven't made any of the recipes though. That's a nice blog, Clair. I dip into another of your recommendations, Chocolate & Zucchini, from time to time. You might like this one, Tina, because there's a French and an English version. http://chocolateandzucchini.com/vf/http://chocolateandzucchini.com/

Some really good recipes I will have to try. The blog also looks great. I also need to be see a cookbook before I buy it- either I'm attracted to it or not, and I can only know that by physically holding it in my hands and flipping through it! Fay
Way back when I edited a bunch of French veggie cookbooks with a wonderful elderly French Master Chef called Jean Conil, for a publisher that used to specialize in vegetarian cooking. Long out of print but you can still find copies of them on sites like Abebooks. Search on Jean Conil - bless him, a man ahead of him time. (BTW I have no financial interest in this!) Dog
There are or certainly were not many publishers especially on veggie stuff in Northamptonshire.

Dog
Sadly not a veggie recipe book - but I just checked one I helped concieve and printed some years ago - good to see it is now commanding a good price. It was an interesting cookbook and unusual in it's design and the papers and binding - each book also had a bayleaf for a bookmark. http://www.bookfinder.com/search/?ac=sl&st=sl&qi=83BSLg9C0jINrQD0ww4zaVM0tuo_7962037217_1:8:468&bq=author%3Dpaddy%2520fox%26title%3Dbrixworth%2520country%2520fare%2520a%2520village%2520recipe%2520collection
